Walking Again

Hospitals, dogs, kids, & calves

Today was a weird one. It was a good day, but it made its way to "good" in a way that wouldn't normally work for me.

For starters, one of my kids has a sinus infection and needed to go down the hill (to Denver) for a checkup and some antibiotics. With rush hour traffic, parking, and the rest of the "big city fun", this is the kind of trip that often ends with me taking a 3 hour nap and starting my workday sometime around the time I should be making dinner.

For my specific flavor of Autism and ADHD, the driving and sensory overwhelm is draining, and often physically painful. I can adapt and get through it, but there is a cost. Immediately after arriving, as my mind registers that the current objective has been completed, my processing capacity drops rapidly. A deep mental fog sets in, making even the most mundane task, like starting the washing machine, feel as complicated as playing the violin.

But this time, that didn't happen. My son and I made the trip with no problems.

We walked in and made small talk with our local nurses, who were still displaced after a gunman in Evergreen, CO shot up the local clinic months ago. In another week, they'll be able to leave the hospital and return to their clinic a short drive back up the hill. I'm sure they'll have mixed feelings but I hope they're happy to return to some level of normalcy.

When we left, we used their new automated coffee machine and grabbed some coffee and cocoa for the ride home.

Then, after a quick stop at the grocery store for supplies and antibiotics, we were back home. Somehow, within an hour or two, I'd caught up and the day was back on track.

I even had time to take a nice long walk with my dog Bast, with Keith and Kosmo joining us. We explored 2 more roads and plan another road exploration tomorrow. My calf strain, which first showed up about a month ago while jogging, and then got reinjured a week or two ago during rope flow, is getting better. I wear a compression sleeve during walks, AND a local healer provided divine healing codes. It seems to be helping and I'm excited to start running in the coming weeks.

not thinking, existing now,
