New Mission!

Every street, road, lane, and drive.

This morning, Keith, Kosmo, Bast, and I walked a new route and started a new mission. We're going to walk/run every road in our neighborhood, then see where we want to go from there.

This is NOT a small neighborhood, and in the foothills of the Rockies, none of the roads are flat. We'd already checked off the roads closest to home, and were looking into ways to track our progress when we found FieldPapers.org .

FieldPapers.org is a FREE build-your-own atlas website that allows you to build printable maps that can be printed to a single page OR laid out in a grid to create extra-large wall maps or pack-and-go Atlases. For example, you could have a 3 page wide by 3 page tall giant map.

This has been perfect for our neighborhood exploration project, as we just pick our next grid, walk it, and highlight the trail we walked. I would definitely recommend it for just about any exploration project or adventure.

Movement Mix:

One of the ways I've learned to manage the sensory challenges and anxiety that can accompany my Autism and ADHD, is through movement. I move throughout the day, with sets of exercises spread throughout my breaks, and sometimes during work sessions.

With this approach, I may do anywhere between 15 and 30 sets in a day, spread between 3-10 mini movement sessions.

I try to keep it simple, focusing on one exercise per muscle group each day. However, variations are encouraged. For example, if I'm doing rows, as I did today, I may do 5 different types of rows throughout the day. You can mix it up, just stay with the general movement pattern so you can let that recover tomorrow while focusing on a different movement.

Here's today's mix:

  • Upper Push: overhead press

  • Upper Pull: rows

  • Legs: squats

  • Core: dragon flag

  • Play: rubik's cube

  • Skill: rope compasses

  • Locomotion: Crawl/Crab

  • Mobility/Stretch: 5 min mixed sessions

  • Steps: 12,389 (as of 930pm)

NOTE: I've earned a Bachelor's in Exercise Science, along with several certifications including Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Tactical Strength & Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F), Certified Sports Nutritionist (ISSN), Olympic Weightlifting (level 1), TRX Suspension Training (level 1), and more. In my Northern Colorado facility, I trained athletes at all levels, including time as the Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Colorado Cougars of the ABA.
